My Dishwasher door will not stay closed

My Dishwasher door will not stay closed

Generally when your dishwasher door won't stay shut it’s something simple that is causing the problem.

This problem is normally caused by a fault in one of three items

 Door Catch

The Door Catch on many dishwashers is adjustable. If your Dishwasher Door is easy to close but will not stay closed, adjust the Door Catch to allow the door to stay closed more easily. If you can't adjust the Door Catch, yours may not be adjustable. If the Door Catch is worn, you may need to replace the Door Catch. If this doesn’t sort it, check the Door Hinge or Door Spring to see if they’re in line.

 Door Spring

Your dishwasher has a Door Spring attached to the Door Hinge at either side to counterbalance the weight of the Dishwasher Door. If either or both of these are broken, the door feels quite heavy, will drop quickly, you’ll need to replace both Door Springs.

 Door Hinge

The Door Hinges are important to keeping the door closing properly. If they're bent or warped, you probably need to replace them. If they are bent, it’s very difficult to straighten them sufficiently in order for them to work properly. We recommend you replace both Door Hinges.

Door seal - If your dishwasher is new - or if you have just replaced door seal - the door may be difficult to keep closed for a week or two. If the tightness persists, try adjusting the Door Catch, if it's adjustable. If it's not adjustable, there's probably nothing you can do immediately. Try setting the dishwasher on the hottest cycle to help the seal to adjust to the shape of the Dishwasher Door. The Door Seal should compress over time.

Should this all prove too difficult and you need a to call a dishwasher repairs in Sydney give Oxford Service Appliance Repairs a call for all your dishwasher repairs in Sydney.

The food in my fridge is freezing?

The food in my fridge is freezing?

This happens quite a lot. Here are a few pointers that might set you in the right direction.

  • Adjust the thermostat to a lower number on the dial. Check the temperature using a fridge/freezer thermometer (proper fridge temperature should be 2-5 degrees Celsius).
  • Cold air moves downwards. The bottom of the fridge is the coldest area. Move the food you need coldest around the fridge accordingly.
  • If you still have the problem at this stage, and, adjusting the thermostat dial isn’t correcting the fridge temperature. The thermostat looks like the culprit. Most fridge thermostats are unrepairable. Replace if faulty.
  • The final solution. There could be a leak in the gas/refrigerant system. You’ll need to consult a suitably qualified engineer.
