The food in my fridge is freezing?

The food in my fridge is freezing?

This happens quite a lot. Here are a few pointers that might set you in the right direction.

  • Adjust the thermostat to a lower number on the dial. Check the temperature using a fridge/freezer thermometer (proper fridge temperature should be 2-5 degrees Celsius).
  • Cold air moves downwards. The bottom of the fridge is the coldest area. Move the food you need coldest around the fridge accordingly.
  • If you still have the problem at this stage, and, adjusting the thermostat dial isn’t correcting the fridge temperature. The thermostat looks like the culprit. Most fridge thermostats are unrepairable. Replace if faulty.
  • The final solution. There could be a leak in the gas/refrigerant system. You’ll need to consult a suitably qualified engineer.
